When Is It Time to Repair the Electrical Panel?

The electrical panel, also known as the breaker box or distribution board, is the gatekeeper of your home's electrical system in that it distributes (or cuts off) electricity to the many electrical circuits. It’s not perfect though. Over time, it may require repairs or even upgrades to ensure the safety, efficiency, and reliability of your electrical supply.

So, how do you know it’s time to have your electrical panel installation repaired? Here are some tell-tale warning signs that your electrical panel may need repair:

  • Arcing, or electrical sparks
  • Flickering lights
  • Intermittent power outages
  • Buzzing or crackling sounds
  • Frequently tripping circuit breakers
  • Scorch marks
  • Burning smell
  • Corrosion and/or rust

This is not an exhaustive list, but these are common signs of trouble for your electrical panel installation in Canyon Lake. Call Mr. Electric to consult with a certified electrician if you notice any of these issues.

Is It Better to Go Ahead and Upgrade the Electrical Panel?

The average electrical panel’s life expectancy is around 30 years, which means a house built in the 1980s or early 1990s may have an outdated panel. If you find yourself constantly having to repair the circuit breaker installation, or if you experience flickering lights or power outages when you plug in an appliance, then it might be time for your electrical panel replacement in Canyon Lake.

Electrical Panel Replacement in Canyon Lake, TX

Another reason to go with a fresh, new circuit breaker installation is if your existing electrical panel uses fuses. Fuse boxes were common up until the 1960s, but they cost time and money. When the fuse blows out, you’re forced to replace the blown fuse with a new one whereas with a circuit breaker, you can simply "flip the switch" and you’re back on schedule.

Whether your electrical panel is outdated, undersized, or uses fuse boxes, an electrical panel replacement may end up saving you money in the long run. Call Mr. Electric to consult with a knowledgeable member of our team and schedule a flexible appointment today.

John was on time, explained the issue I was having, offered me a couple of options, and then repaired the switch that was giving me problems, following my preferences of the choices he had given me.  He was pleasant, professional, and did a great job.  Would not hesitate to  use Mr. Electric again!

Austin, electrician and his teammate we’re great! Both were punctual, courteous, and very informative in explaining the situation and their recommendations to replace a bad breaker in our panel.  There was NO frivolous attempt up-sale to items we didn’t need and they were straight to the point honest in their recommendation. In the end, I would described the customer service Austin and his teammate provided me as, AWESOME! Being a new home owner, I am glad I have found  this company and will be using them any future electrical needs!

Outstanding communication and very professional service.  I would highly recommend Mr. Electric.  Received both e-mails and texts on appointment to include a photo and short bio of the actual electrician (Brad Mason) who would be doing the work.  Wish all home service providers did the same.  Brad was on time (actually a few minutes early).  He installed 30AMP breaker and associated RV plug in our garage.  To avoid any sheetrock repairs it was necessary for him to drop the line to the house electric panel through a wall with foam insulation, with very limited head/body clearance for him to work.  No mess left behind from the actual plug installation on another wall.

Rick from Mr. Electric arrived when expected and quickly diagnosed the problem.  He recommended a solution and gave us a proposal for solving the problem.  We asked when he could do the work and how long would it take.  He said he could do the job that day and it would take 4 or 5 hours.  The price was reasonable, and we told him to get started.  He did a very good job, neat and within the estimated time.  The invoice amount for the job was was the same as the proposal amount.  We are planning on having Mr. Electric and hopefully Rick do more work in the near future to upgrade our home's 50+ year old electrical system.
