Deck Lighting & Outlet Installation

Creating a comfortable and attractive outdoor environment requires attention to many elements, among which deck lighting and electrical outlets are vital. They not only enhance the beauty of your deck but also increase its usability and safety. At Mr. Electric, we offer reliable services for local property owners including deck lighting and outdoor outlet installation, repair, and replacement. Keep reading to learn more about the basics of deck lighting, the importance of outdoor electrical outlets, and why it's important to hire a professional electrician.

Understanding the Basics of Deck Lighting

Deck lighting is more than just a functional feature; it's an element that adds beauty and safety to your outdoor space. Different types of deck lighting can create a warm ambiance and highlight certain architectural features of your deck. Popular options include:

  • Post Cap Lighting - illuminates from above, adding a subtle and comfortable level of lighting.
  • Recessed Step Lighting - is crucial for safety, reducing the risk of trips and falls on the stairs.
  • Landscape Lighting - extends beyond the deck, enhancing the surrounding landscape and creating a seamless transition between your deck and yard.

Outdoor Electrical Outlets

Having outdoor outlets dramatically increases the versatility of your deck. From powering garden lights to running your outdoor cooking appliances, outlets make it all possible. The installation of outdoor electrical outlets involves several safety considerations. Outlet covers, for example, protect the outlet from dust, dirt, and weather conditions. Another key piece is Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter, or GFCI, outlets. These are critical for outdoor safety as they cut off the power when they detect a difference in the amount of electricity passing through the device and returning.

Planning for Deck Lighting and Outlet Installation

Proper planning ensures that your deck lighting and outdoor outlets run smoothly. Start by assessing your deck's lighting and electrical needs. Consider where you need lighting for safety, like steps and walkways, and where you want mood lighting. When choosing locations for outlets, consider where they'll be most useful, like near seating areas or outdoor kitchens. Think about where you'll run your deck wiring to keep it hidden and safe. Consulting with a professional can make this process easier and more efficient.

Why Hire a Professional Electrician?

While some homeowners might be tempted to tackle electrical installations themselves, there are several reasons to hire a professional. An electrician has the training and knowledge to ensure all electrical work is done safely, reducing the risk of electrical accidents or fires. Compliance with electrical codes is another important aspect. Specialists are knowledgeable about these regulations, ensuring your installation meets local and national standards, and saving you from potential legal troubles and fines. An experienced electrician can also advise you on the best types of lighting for your deck and the optimal placement of outlets. They understand the intricacies of wiring and can avoid common problems that could arise during installation.

Our Customers Love our Services

John was on time, explained the issue I was having, offered me a couple of options, and then repaired the switch that was giving me problems, following my preferences of the choices he had given me.  He was pleasant, professional, and did a great job.  Would not hesitate to  use Mr. Electric again!

Austin, electrician and his teammate we’re great! Both were punctual, courteous, and very informative in explaining the situation and their recommendations to replace a bad breaker in our panel.  There was NO frivolous attempt up-sale to items we didn’t need and they were straight to the point honest in their recommendation. In the end, I would described the customer service Austin and his teammate provided me as, AWESOME! Being a new home owner, I am glad I have found  this company and will be using them any future electrical needs!

Outstanding communication and very professional service.  I would highly recommend Mr. Electric.  Received both e-mails and texts on appointment to include a photo and short bio of the actual electrician (Brad Mason) who would be doing the work.  Wish all home service providers did the same.  Brad was on time (actually a few minutes early).  He installed 30AMP breaker and associated RV plug in our garage.  To avoid any sheetrock repairs it was necessary for him to drop the line to the house electric panel through a wall with foam insulation, with very limited head/body clearance for him to work.  No mess left behind from the actual plug installation on another wall.

Rick from Mr. Electric arrived when expected and quickly diagnosed the problem.  He recommended a solution and gave us a proposal for solving the problem.  We asked when he could do the work and how long would it take.  He said he could do the job that day and it would take 4 or 5 hours.  The price was reasonable, and we told him to get started.  He did a very good job, neat and within the estimated time.  The invoice amount for the job was was the same as the proposal amount.  We are planning on having Mr. Electric and hopefully Rick do more work in the near future to upgrade our home's 50+ year old electrical system.
